Rabbitohs re-sign Mitchell, Lovett for 2025 NRL season
Shaquai Mitchell and Ben Lovett have both re-signed with the South Sydney Rabbitohs for the 2025 NRL season, the club confirmed on Monday.
Prop Mitchell has played 20 times for the Rabbitohs since debuting in 2022, and he’s also appeared three times for the Indigenous All Stars.
“He is very skilful for a big man and he will play an important role in our team over the coming seasons,” Souths head of football Mark Ellison said in a press release.
“Shaq has worked incredibly hard to get to where he has in his career so far.
“He continues to show the work ethic required to play at the NRL level and he has progressed to representing his people in the annual All Stars game on a regular basis as well.
“Shaq is also a wonderful family man being a father of three kids, and he is a strong, positive influence on our playing group, having overcome some of the hurdles he has faced in his career and his life.”
Lovett has been less active, getting three runs since debuting for South Sydney early last year.
However, the back-rower is a talent that the Rabbitohs are excited about.
“Ben is one of the most professional players we have at the club, and he has shown he has the work ethic and dedication to play at the NRL level,” Ellison said.
“His commitment to his football is matched by his commitment to helping his teammates, his club and his community.
“He’s moved to Sydney from Parkes and has made a home here at the Rabbitohs and we’re looking forward to having him back on the field in the red and green.”
The Rabbitohs will be looking for a big change in 2025, with legendary NRL coach Wayne Bennett taking over the reins.
Heading into 2024, South Sydney were among the premiership favourites with the top NRL betting sites.
Injuries and disciplinary issues from the start led to a horror season, however, as the Bunnies lost nine of their first 10 matches and finished 16th on the NRL ladder.
