Rabbitohs lose Mitchell, Murray for opening months of NRL 2025
The South Sydney Rabbitohs will be without key players Latrell Mitchell and Cameron Murray for the opening months of the 2025 NRL season, with the club revealing the extent of the pair’s latest injuries on Thursday.
Mitchell will miss around eight weeks after scans revealed a significant issue with the star fullback’s right hamstring.
Murray looks set for an even longer stint on the sidelines, with the club captain suffering a suspected rupture to his Achilles tendon during training on Wednesday.
The news is a huge blow for the Rabbitohs, who will be missing two of their most important players as they look to bounce back from a horror 2024 campaign.
Souths finished second-last on the NRL ladder last year, and top rugby league betting sites have them well back in the pack at $20 to win the premiership in 2025.
Despite the setback, Rabbitohs chief executive Blake Solly is confident the team will find a way to get on with the job.
“One of the things about professional sport is people move on pretty quickly,” he said on Thursday.
“One of the things about out club is, there is certainly a next-man-up attitude.”
South Sydney will kick off their 2025 NRL campaign as slight underdogs against the Dolphins on Friday, March 7, with Marantelli Bet paying $2.10 for Wayne Bennett and his new charges to beat the master coach’s former side.
