Qld trainer Stuart Hinks dies aged 73

A doyen of Queensland training ranks, Stuart Hinks, has died from cancer aged 73 after being ill for some time.

Hinks trained from stables across the road from the front gates of the Ipswich Turf Club for more than 40 years.

He cut his teeth in racing working with some top trainers, the most notable being Multiple Group One winner Jim Griffiths.

Hinks rarely had more than a dozen horses in his stable but many were more than handy including Luskin Knight, Jolly Bacon, Jayelem and Blushing Blonde.

A passionate family man Hinks was a long time supporter and worker for the Ipswich Knights soccer club where his sons played.

Ipswich Turf Club chief executive Brett Kitching said Hinks would be remembered as an honest hard worker who loved Ipswich and racing.

Hinks is survived by his wife Heather and sons Greg, Peter and Stuart jr.
