Punting tips & bookmaker specials for Rd 10 NRL multi of the week
AFTER an international break which saw the Aussies defeat the Kiwis 16-0 in a dour test match, the domestic competition is back and not a moment too soon.
The Parramatta Eels have taken the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the last fortnight, and while there is no answer yet from the league as to whether or not they will be playing the Rabbitohs for premiership points; we are avoiding that match like the plague.
Outside of the Parramatta vs. South Sydney match, there are several potential classic games taking place across the weekend that we have taken a look at.
We are never ones to toot our own horns, but a successful multi this week will make it three in a row.
Last round our readers got a sensational $5.27 return on their multi investments after nabbing a healthy $4.17 the week before.
All odds this week are provided by Sportsbet.com.au, which continue to provide a fantastic inducement for those looking to open a new account.
New customers can get their first bet at Sportsbet matched up to the value of $501 – which if placed on our multi last week would have netted you a juicy $2640.27 return.
NRL Round 10 multi of the week:
Penrith to defeat New Zealand ($1.65)
North Queensland to defeat Melbourne ($1.45)
Cronulla to beat Newcastle ($1.19)
Canterbury to beat Wests Tigers ($1.35)
Combine multi value: $3.84 @ Sportsbet.com.au
Penrith vs. New Zealand
Saturday, May 14 from 3.05pm at AMI Park, Christchurch
The first match in Christchurch in six years sees the Penrith Panthers and the New Zealand Warriors clashing the points on Saturday afternoon.
Both teams enter the match on the back of wins, but neither side has been able to record back-to-back victories this season.
The Warriors have managed to register the majority of their wins against weakened opposition, while the Panthers’ wins have come against quality sides such as the Raiders and the Eels.
Despite the fact that this match is played over the Tasman, we are backing the Panthers to get the job done against the Warriors.
Multi tip: Penrith Panthers to win – $1.65
Melbourne vs. North Queensland
Saturday, May 14 from 5.35pm at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane
The Melbourne Storm have the dubious honour of kicking off the double-header at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane as the ‘home’ team against the North Queensland Cowboys.
The venue should play a massive factor here, as a home game for the Storm in Melbourne would have been a great advantage against the Cowboys.
The Cowboys named the same 17 for the third week running, which bodes well for a team that has recorded back-to-back 16 point wins.
Scoring against the Storm will not be the easiest task though, given Craig Bellamy’s men have kept their opponents scoreless in their last two matches.
We are anticipating a tight contest, but the home state factor should hold the Cowboys in great stead, and we are backing JT’s men to get the points against the Storm.
Multi tip: North Queensland to win – $1.45
Newcastle vs. Cronulla
Sunday, May 15 from 2.05pm at Hunter Stadium, Newcastle
Our focus shifts to Sunday and more specifically to Hunter Stadium as the Newcastle Knights host the Cronulla Sharks.
The two teams’ fortunes this season could not be any more different.
The Sharks are flying, sitting in third position and after recording an impressive victory over the Brisbane Broncos.
The Knights have been dismal this season; and have only managed to score 10 points from their last three matches.
This should be a walk in the park for the Sharks; we are expecting them to record a big win against the hapless Knights.
Multi tip: Cronulla to win – $1.19
West Tigers vs. Canterbury
Sunday, May 15 from 4.05pm at ANZ Stadium, Sydney
An interesting match-up between two Sydney sides rounds out our multi.
The West Tigers will be looking to kickstart their season after their terrific win over the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
The victory was their first in six weeks.
The Bulldogs’ slip up against the Parramatta Eels has placed them on the back foot and in dire need of a win.
The Dogs have shown plenty this season at different stages but have struggled to find the consistency that separates the great teams from the mediocre ones.
On paper the Dogs are a far better team than the Tigers and we are expecting that to reflect on Sunday’s scoreboard – Canterbury should be far too good for the Wests.
Multi tip: Cronulla to win – $1.35
