The Port Adelaide Power will continue the search for their first win of the 2022 AFL season this Saturday afternoon when they face the struggling West Coast Eagles at Adelaide Oval.
Adam Simpson’s Eagles were awful in their round five battle against the Swans, losing by 63 points despite having a home-field advantage.
Ken Hinkley is under immense pressure to get his Power fit and firing as soon as possible, as the 2021 finalists are now at long odds to even make the top eight this season.
Brownlow Medal winner Ollie Wines is still looking to return from his recent heart trouble, but there is lots of uncertainty surrounding whether he will be declared fit in time for this critical contest.
The Eagles have finally regained a few of their important midfielders, but the loss of Nic Naitanui was telling against the Swans, as the lack of experience in the ruck was a major factor in the outcome.
Last season’s clash between these sides resulted in a six-goal victory to the Eagles, as their intercepting defenders outplayed the Power’s tall timber.
Jeremy McGovern is set to return from isolation this weekend, which is timely as he dominated with 11 marks in last year’s clash with Port.

Key matchup: Zak Butters vs Liam Ryan
With more and more time in the midfield, Zak Butters has taken his game to new heights in 2022. Liam Ryan is the Eagles’ most dangerous small forward – one the Power need to keep quiet. Both Butters and Ryan are elite at ground level with their genius decision-making, while Ryan has a great aerial presence for a man of his height. Clean hands and good finishing will be the key for two sides that are desperate to find some form.
Port Adelaide vs West Coast match predictions
Just when the Eagles looked dead and buried, in round four they managed to defeat Collingwood in a classy effort away from home. Adelaide Oval is a hostile environment for visiting teams, but we think this will fuel the underperforming Eagles. The defensive duo of Jeremy McGovern and Tom Barrass is going to be hard to penetrate without Charlie Dixon up forward for Port, which should be enough for the Eagles to cover the line.
West Coast +20.5
Port Adelaide vs West Coast disposal betting tips
Dan Houston was outstanding in his last contest with the Eagles, and we think he will get off the chain once more. Houston has been stationed at half-back for most of the season, but Ken Hinkley has injected him into the midfield with good effect at stages, including round one when he had 36 touches and kicked a goal.
Dan Houston 25+ disposals
Port Adelaide vs West Coast AFL same-game multi
Liam Ryan will dominate up forward for the Eagles and help them stay close to the Power this Saturday, while Dan Houston will fill the void left by Ollie Wines in the midfield and rack up plenty of disposals.
West Coast +20.5 / Houston 25+ disposals / Ryan 2+ goals
