Round 21: Port Adelaide v Sydney
Port Adelaide will be looking to continue their top four charge when they host ladder-leader Sydney at Adelaide Oval on Saturday in round 21 of the 2024 AFL season.
With a close match expected, AFL bookmakers are struggling to split the sides, with Port Adelaide at $1.96 and Sydney priced at $1.85. The $1.90 line has been set at 1.5 by Neds Australia.
Last Friday, the Power secured an impressive 14-point victory over Carlton at the MCG. In a low scoring affair, the Power trailed by as much as 31 points in the second quarter. But they flipped the match in the second half, kicking the last six goals to secure a vital win.
After a mid-season slump, Ken Hinkley’s side have now bounced back to form, winning four of their last five matches. Sitting in seventh spot on the ladder, online betting sites are offering $7 on them finishing top four.
Don’t expect many changes for the Power this week, but key forward Todd Marshall is in the mix as he returns from a hip injury.
Sydney put together their worst performance of the season last Sunday, falling to the Western Bulldogs by 39 points at the SCG. Starting with a goalless first term, the Swans never clicked into gear as they kicked just seven goals for the day.
Despite sitting in first place on the ladder, there are concerns around the Swans given they have lost four of their last five matches. However, they still remain AFL flag favourites at $4.
There are expected to be a few changes for the Swans this week as Dane Rampe, Lewis Melican and Will Hayward face fitness tests. Midfielder James Rowbottom is set to return from a cheekbone injury, while key defender Aaron Francis is in the mix and could bolster a backline that was put to the sword by the Dogs.

Power v Swans tip and betting strategy
Playing at home and entering this match in much better form, Port Adelaide should be too good for Sydney. The Power have won the last seven matches between the sides and the Swans have not beaten them at Adelaide Oval since 2015. At $1.93 with Bet365, back Port Adelaide to secure the four points.
A key part of Port Adelaide’s recent good form, key forward Mitch Georgiades has been very consistent recently, kicking three or more goals in six of his last seven matches. As the Swans defensive depth is tested, back Georgiades to hit the scoreboard once again with three or more goals at around the $3 quote.
After a quiet month of footy, Sydney’s Isaac Heeney was one of the few solid performers last week as he collected 32 disposals. One of the favourites for the Brownlow Medal before his suspension, the 28-year-old averages 25.7 disposals this season. As the Swans look to halt their slide down the ladder, expect Heeney to have a big game, collecting 25 or more disposals at $1.95 with BoomBet.
