Port Adelaide Power v St Kidla Saints AFL R7 preview
Round seven of the AFL season continues this Friday night with the Port Adelaide Power hosting the struggling St Kilda Saints at Adelaide Oval.
The Power were given their biggest loss of the season last Saturday as they went down to Collingwood by 42 points. While they started well, Port fell away midway through the second term and were unable to contain the Collingwood attack.
It was a bit of a reality check for Ken Hinkley’s side, who had been cruising along with just one loss through five games.
In some good news for Port Adelaide, defensive pair Lachie Jones and Miles Bergman have both avoided suspension over incidents in the loss to the Magpies. They may also be boosted by the return of veteran Travis Boak, who has recovered from a back injury.
Last Thursday night, the St Kilda Saints also received their biggest loss of the season, going down to the Western Bulldogs by 60 points. After conceding 43 points in the opening term, they never recovered as they were beaten in every statistical category — including tackles, which is sure to give coach Ross Lyon plenty to talk about.
Having lost three of their past four matches, the Saints are now under pressure to turn their season around.
Adding to their extensive injury list, St Kilda have lost pressure forward Dan Butler to a hamstring injury for at least the next month. Key forward Max King is a test to return to the side, while off-season recruit Paddy Dow is a chance to make his club debut after coming across from the Blues last year.
Port Adelaide v St Kilda betting strategy
Having won 12 of the last 13 matches between the sides, the Power are rightful favourites at -322.58. The Power have shown much more this season, and with the home ground advantage they should be far too strong for the Saints. Back Port to cover the -20.5 handicap at -109.89 with top AFL bookmakers.
After earning his first All-Australian jacket in 2023, Port Adelaide’s Zak Butters remains one of the premier midfielders in the AFL. Averaging a career-high 28 disposals a game, expect the vice-captain to put in another big performance in game 100. At +115 to collect 30 or more disposals, he offers great value with Neds.
Averaging 32 disposals across his last two weeks, St Kilda wingman Bradley Hill has been a bright spot for the Saints. Back in his preferred position, Hill is regularly involved multiple times in chains of possession as the Saints move the ball forward. Back the 30-year-old to continue his good form with 30 or more disposals at +200 with PlayUp.
