Port Adelaide v Richmond Round 2 preview

Port Adelaide will host Richmond at Adelaide Oval in a crucial AFL Round 2 clash on Saturday.

The Power will be eager to bounce back after a disappointing loss to Collingwood in Round 1, and the AFL media have wasted no time piling on and raising question about the Ken Hinkley succession play.

On the flipside, Richmond enjoyed a dream start to the season, coming from 41 points down to beat Carlton in an early contender for upset of the season.

Despite those disparate results in Round 1, top online bookmakers have the Power as heavy favourites at home.

With a passionate Adelaide Oval crowd behind them, Port will be looking to bounce back after their poor performance last week.

Port v Tigers R2 team news

Port Adelaide are missing some star power in midfield, with Zak Butters still sidelined after undergoing knee surgery in preseason.

They are also without some tall timber at either end of the field, as Brandon Zerk-Thatcher (back) and Todd Marshall (Achilles) are set for lengthy stints on the sidelines.

Richmond, meanwhile, have been dealt a blow with spearhead Tom Lynch suspended for one match, leaving a hole in their forward line.

It is the last thing the Tigers needed, as they already have an extensive injury list that includes Dion Prestia (Achilles), Hugo Ralphsmith (hamstring) and a number of ACL victims.

Port Adelaide v Richmond Tigers predictions

Port Adelaide look set to dominate this clash, making them a strong pick to cover the -40.5 line at $2.10 with online bookmakers. The undermanned Tigers, although pulling off the upset last week against Carlton, look too overpowered in this contest.

Tim Taranto remains a key playmaker for Richmond, and despite the Tigers’ struggles, he should see plenty of the ball in this matchup. The former Giant gathered a team-high 30 disposals in the win over the Blues, and he looks a good play to hit that mark again at $2.63 with Picklebet.

Up forward, Mitch Georgiades looms as a major threat for Port Adelaide. With plenty of scoring chances likely to come his way, back him to kick four or more goals at $3.90 with Neds in what could be a big performance.
