Piastri wins 2025 Miami GP as McLaren dominate

Oscar Piastri Wins Miami GP

Oscar Piastri completed a dream treble in Miami, storming to a Grand Prix victory in Miami to extend his lead atop the Formula 1 season Drivers’ Championship standings.

Piastri led teammate Lando Norris in a dominant McLaren one-two. The Aussie now has four wins from the first six races of the season and looks every bit the title favourite at $1.57 with BetOnline.

George Russell rounded out the podium for Mercedes, while Max Verstappen struggled to match McLaren’s pace, finishing P4 and losing further ground in the title race. Williams had their best result of the season with Alex Albon finishing P5 ahead of Kimi Antonelli, Charles Leclerc, and Lewis Hamilton.

The Miami heat took its toll on several cars, with four drivers — Liam Lawson, Gabriel Bortoleto, Oliver Bearman and Jack Doohan — failing to finish. Meanwhile, Yuki Tsunoda scraped into the points with P10 after a late battle with ex-teammate Isack Hadjar.

Piastri now holds a 16-point lead over Norris in the Drivers’ Championship, solidifying his place at the top of the standings. The Melburnian now has six race victories in Formula 1, surpassing Norris and underlining his rapid rise as McLaren’s lead title contender in 2025.

2025 Miami Grand Prix results

F1 Miami GP biggest winners

Oscar Piastri – The McLaren ace officially announced himself as the man to beat in 2025. Piastri was clinical all weekend, showing composure and pace in every session, and was arguably unlucky not to claim the Sprint win as well. The Aussie is flying right now and firmly staking his claim for the title as firm favourite with top online bookmakers.

Alexander Albon – Miami marked the best drive of the season from the Thai driver, who kept it clean and fast to finish P5. Williams are quietly building a strong midfield campaign in their most promising season since the days of Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas.

McLaren – It’s another one-two finish for the papaya cars, which clearly boast the fastest package across racing and qualifying. The Constructors’ Championship is McLaren’s to lose again this year.

2025 F1 Miami GP’s biggest blunders

Verstappen & Red Bull – Lacklustre pace and no answers to McLaren’s strategy left Verstappen out of the top three again. His Miami weekend was summed up by radio silence in the closing laps and the crying for a penalty to Russell so he could secure a podium finish.

Ferrari – P7 and P8 might bring home points, but the lack of progression from practice to race day is becoming a real concern for Ferrari. Both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton are being left behind in the battle at the top, and growing internal tension is beginning to surface over team radio. If Ferrari want to stay in the championship conversation, something needs to change — and fast.
