Perth title favourites in 2024-25 as early Big Bash odds revealed

BBL betting odds

Bookmaker Bet365 has released their early Big Bash odds ahead of the 2024-25 BBL season, with the Perth Scorchers listed as the favourite heading into the next instalment of the Australian T20 league.

The Scorchers pay $5 to win at most top cricket betting sites, narrowly ahead of last year’s runner ups the Sydney Sixers ($5.50).

Defending champions the Brisbane Heat are in the third line of betting at $6, while the Hobart Hurricanes ($7) and Sydney Thunder ($7.50) round out the top five.

The Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Stars are tied on $9 to win the 2024-25 title, with the Melbourne Renegades – who have not made the final since they won in 2018-19 – are in the last line at $10.

Batting firepower has Scorchers pegged as favourites

Perth’s strong odds ahead of the 2024-25 season come off the back of recent additions they have made to their squad in the off-season.

The Scorchers picked up three overseas players, with New Zealand’s Finn Allen coming on pre-draft, and Englishmen Matthew Hurst and Keaton Jennings coming as draft picks.
All three are dangerous batsmen.

Allen holds the highest strike rate of any Kiwi in T20Is, going at 158.69 on average over his career so far.

He has also made the highest individual score for a New Zealander in T20Is, plundering 137 runs from 62 balls – complete with 16 sixes – against Pakistan earlier this year.

Hurst also has a handy strike rate so far in his young career, with the 20-year-old going at 161.95 in the most recent edition of The Hundred. His six innings this year produced two half centuries.

Jennings, on the other hand, brings batting experience to the Scorchers’ line up. He has represented England 17 times in Tests, and went at a 150+ strike rate in this year’s The Hundred as well.

“We needed a top-order player and Finn’s going to fit that role really nicely,” said head coach Adam Voges of the squad changes.

“Matty Hurst is a really exciting young talent who’s a wicketkeeper, as well, so he can play that back-up role should we need it.

“Keaton Jennings is an experienced cricketer, a left-hander who’s a top-order player.

“All in all, we filled a couple of the roles we think we’ll need throughout the tournament at some stage.

“I think we saw last year when we lost a couple of our internationals at the back end of the tournament that limited availability did have an effect, so we’ve certainly prioritised the availability piece this year.”

The Big Bash League will begin on Sunday, December 15, when the Scorchers take on the Melbourne Stars in Perth.
