Perth pair gunning for Everest slots

Leviathan WA owner Bob Peters says Arcadia Queen and Enticing Star have arrived in Melbourne.

High profile West Australian owner Bob Peters is hoping to know in the coming weeks whether he will have at least one runner in the $14 million Everest.

Peters recently announced two of his best horses, Arcadia Queen and Enticing Star, would be transferred to champion trainer Chris Waller for Sydney spring carnival campaigns.

He is keen to get both horses into The Everest and has already been in preliminary discussions with slot holders.

“I’m talking to quite a few of the slot holders but no decision’s been made as yet,” Peters told Sky Sports Radio.

“But both their programs will be aimed in that direction.”

Arcadia Queen and Enticing Star have been flown to Melbourne and are at Waller’s Flemington stable ahead of a road trip to Sydney.

The two have been in light work at Peters’ farm in preparation for their transfer.

Arcadia Queen has won five of her six starts, culminating in her Group One Kingston Town Stakes victory in December, while Enticing Star has won eight from 10 and finished runner-up to Voodoo Lad in last year’s Group One Winterbottom Stakes.

While Arcadia Queen has the higher profile of the two, Peters says both horses have piqued the interest of Everest slot holders.

“They’re probably leaning towards Arcadia Queen but a couple of them have been talking the other way,” Peters said.

“Hopefully something gets sorted out in the next couple of weeks.

“From the amount of interest that’s been shown I’m fairly confident they’ll get there.”

Five horses have already been confirmed for Everest slots – Santa Ana Lane, Pierata, Classique Legend, Sunlight and In Her Time.

Another seven spots remain up for grabs in the weight-for-age The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 19.

A group headed by Waller holds a slot and the trainer also has Group One-winning sprinter Nature Strip in his stable.
