Perth Group One target for Eclipse winner
Pacodali will head to Perth in winning form after his win in the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown.
A trip to Perth for a Group One race is on the cards for the Lindsey Smith-trained Pacodali after his strong win in the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown.
Ridden by Dean Yendall, Pacodali ($6.50) tracked leader Setting Sail in Saturday’s 1800m Group Three race before striding past the Charlie Appleby-trained international visitor in the straight to beat the $2.05 favourite by 1-3/4 lengths.
Exasperate ($51) was another 2-1/2-lengths away third.
Smith has a Western Australian training base but also opened a Warrnambool stable earlier this year.
Warrnambool stable representative Maddie Raymond confirmed plans for Pacodali to head west next week along with stablemate Reykjavik who is scheduled to run in the Group One Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot on November 23.
Pacodali also holds a nomination for the Railway but is more likely to wait for the Group One Kingston Town Classic (1800m) on December 7.
“He will more than likely be on a flight on Monday night and Lindsey will see him when he gets over there as to whether he has a crack at the Railway,” Raymond said.
“But more than likely he will just get over there, settle in and have a chance in the Kingston Town.
“He did a lot of work chasing the leader today throughout the run but he was tough towards the line.”
The TAB tightened Pacodali from $51 into $15 for the Kingston Town Classic after Saturday’s win.
