Perth an option for Cantbuybetter

Trainer Ben Currie is eyeing the Perth carnival with Cantbuybetter after he races at Doomben.

Cantbuybetter could be headed across the country in search of Group One success if he runs well at Doomben.

Toowoomba trainer Ben Currie has a big opinion of Cantbuybetter who has won eight races and been placed seven times.

Cantbuybetter will be having his first run back from a winter spell in Saturday’s Open Handicap (1050m).

Currie said Cantbuybetter had shown he was up to better company with his win in the Listed Members Cup (1600m) at Doomben in May.

“He has been great ever since winning his first four starts for us. But he is really starting to pay for his consistency here and has top weight of 59kg on Saturday,” Currie said.

“But he has the inside barrier and his first-up record is good. He handles soft tracks but hopefully it will dry out a bit.”

Currie said he was considering taking Cantbuybetter to Perth for the Group One Railway Stakes (1600m) on November 18.

“I have been tossing the idea around,” he said.

“It depends who is going for it. There is talk Black Heart Bart and Scales of Justice are going for it so it might be a bit rich.

“But I think he would get in with a light weight and the 1600 metres would be perfect. It would certainly be a bit easier than the Melbourne spring.”

Currie said if Cantbuybetter did not head west he would stay in Queensland to chase the summer feature races.

“The Bernborough Stakes is worth $300,000 this year so it is worth looking at,” he said.

Currie. who was the leading trainer in Queensland last season, has Mishani Roman and Noonoo in the Two-Year-Old Handicap (1110m).

Noonoo is also entered for an 870m-race at Toowoomba on the same day.

“Mishani Roman is related to Mishani Sleuth who likes the wet so I will probably start him at Doomben and Noo Noo in Toowoomba if the race holds up,” Currie said.
