Pereira to face Rountree for Light Heavyweight belt at UFC 307

UFC has just recently announced via social media that the 307 event is set for October 5 in Salt Lake City.

Alex Pereira is set to defend his UFC light heavyweight title against ranked #8 Khalil Rountree.

Pereira, who clinched the title in November last year by knocking out Jiri Prochazka and has successfully defended it twice by defeating Jamahal Hill and Jiri Prochazka.

On the other hand, Rountree, who has secured victories in his last five fights, including a third-round knockout win over former title contender Anthony Smith in December.

The UFC officials announced this matchup early Saturday morning (AEST) through their social media accounts.

Pereira’s remarkable rise as a former kickboxing champion turned UFC star has been marked by three title wins within a year.

The leading MMA bookmakers are predicting Pereira to secure his fourth title victory in less than twelve months, pricing him at -455 over Rountree’s +350.

Rountree, a competitor from Season 23 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” joined the UFC in 2016 and is recognised for his versatile skill set encompassing striking and grappling prowess; however, he has been overshadowed by testing positive for a banned substance a month before his set fight against Jamahal Hill.

The recent notice has caused a stir between fans and UFC fighters, with the likes of Hill posting:

“Can’t believe what I just saw announced!!! So a guy pulls out of a contender fight because of failed drug test for a banned substances and gets rewarded with a title shot?!! This is terrible for the sport and makes the rankings completely pointless!!!”
