Panthers v Knights match preview
The Newcastle Knights are fighting for a spot in the top eight as they head to BlueBet Stadium this Sunday to face the Panthers in round 22 of the 2024 NRL Premiership.
Penrith have won five of their last six matches, which includes their win over the Knights in round 15. They’ve also beaten the Broncos, who were grand finalists in 2023, and the Dolphins, who look set to play finals in just their second season.
Kalyn Ponga’s return to action has certainly boosted the Knights. Following last week’s bye, they will be determined to finish the season strongly to ensure a position in the NRL finals.
Knights coach Adam O’Brien has made several changes to the side that lost to the Broncos in round 20. Fletcher Sharpe comes in for Krystian Mapapalangi on the wing, Dylan Lucas replaces Bradman Best (hamstring) at centre, and Phoenix Crossland lines up at halfback with Jackson Hastings left out. Adam Elliot returns at lock, with Jack Cogger coming off the bench.
Ivan Cleary has also been forced to make changes to his Panthers side, with Daine Laurie (concussion) and James Fisher-Harris (groin) out injured. Isaiah Iongi makes his NRL debut at fullback, Lindsay Smith starts in the front row, and Matthew Eisenhuth is named on the bench.

Panthers v Knights predictions
Penrith have won their last six matches against Newcastle, with each of the last three wins coming by 12 points or less. Although they are missing some of their star players, the home side will be expected to win by 13 points or more at $1.55 with online bookmakers.
After quashing rumours that he was set to leave the Panthers at season’s end, star winger Brian To’o will be looking to make a statement. Having scored in each of his last four appearances against the Knights, expect the three-time premiership winner to go a step further and score two tries or more at $2.85 with top NRL bookies.
If the points are to come from anywhere for the Knights, it will likely be through Greg Marzhew. The Newcastle winger has scored four tries in his last four games, and coming up against the Knights rookie Fletcher Sharpe, there is good value on offer for Marzhew as an anytime tryscorer at $2.25 with Neds.
