Panthers, Roosters, Storm head 2024 NRL Premiership betting
With just eight rounds remaining in the NRL’s regular season, three teams have pulled ahead in the outright betting odds at rugby league bookmakers.
The Penrith Panthers ($3), Sydney Roosters ($3.75) and Melbourne Storm ($5) are well ahead of the rest of the field, with odds less than half that of the next closest team.
Six other teams are given an outside chance at the title still, with the Cronulla Sharks ($13) leading the pack.
The Brisbane Broncos and Manly Sea Eagles are joint on $19, while the Canterbury Bulldogs ($23), North Queensland Cowboys ($26) and Dolphins ($31) round out the top nine betting lines.
From here, odds enter unrealistic territory, with the New Zealand Warriors holding the 10th line of betting at $67.
Big shifts from pre-season NRL odds
These odds are a stark contrast to how the outright betting market looked before the NRL kicked off five months ago.
The South Sydney Rabbitohs have had the biggest fall from grace. Ahead of round one, they were sitting in the third line of betting at $8.50; now, they are paying $81 to win it and $10 to even make the finals.
It is a similar story for the Broncos. They were on the second line of premiership betting at $4.33 pre-season, but now they are $2.10 just to make the top eight.
The Roosters and Sharks have benefited from the Rabbitohs’ and Broncos’ poor form. Paying $9 and $21 at the start of the season, the clubs have now improved to $3.75 and $13 respectively.
The Storm and Sea Eagles have also improved, as have the Dolphins and Bulldogs. All four are odds-on to make the top eight.
This weekend will go along way to determining some of the top-eight permutations. The Storm (first) host the Roosters (third), the Bulldogs (fifth) take on the Cowboys (eighth), and the Panthers (second) face the Dolphins (sixth).
