Overdue win for Perilous Love
Trainer Scott Morrisey has had a second reason to celebrate after Perilous Love scored an overdue win at Doomben.
Perilous Love ($8.50) came from well back in the field on Saturday to beat Idle Situation ($16) by half a neck, with a nose to Court’s Star ($8) in the Girls Day Out Handicap (2000m).
Morrisey considered Perilous Love a Queensland Oaks-class filly last year but things didn’t work out for her.
“It’s been the same this campaign because she has had nothing but bad luck from bad barriers this time in,” he said.
“A bit of rain didn’t hurt her today but she would have been hard to beat on any surface.”
Perilous Love’s dam Peri Lou is closely related to the Morrisey family’s top sprinter Pembleton.
Morrisey paid only $9000 for Perilous Love as a yearling and the win lifted her prize money to $182,000.
“We were able to get her half-brother by Echos Of Heaven at the Karaka sales this week for only $24,000,” he said.
Winning jockey Michael Cahill said it had been a good staying effort by the mare who could win over further.
