Oscar Piastri leads McLaren 1-2 at 2025 Chinese Grand Prix
Oscar Piastri has claimed his first 2025 Formula 1 season victory at the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday.
The dominant drive puts McLaren firmly in the constructors championship conversation further shortening their odds with top online bookmakers.
Piastri was paying $3.50 with BetOnline on Wednesday and delivered a clinical performance from lights out, leading almost every lap to finish nearly 10 seconds clear of teammate Lando Norris.
Teammate Lando Norris struggled with tyre degradation, ultimately deciding to play the team game mid-race for Piastri. Despite the drop-off, he held on for a McLaren one-two—with George Russell rounding out the podium after hunting down Norris late.
Ferrari bounced back from their Melbourne meltdown with a double points finish. Charles Leclerc crossed the line in P5, ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton in P6. Both drivers executed a solid strategy but lacked the outright pace to trouble the front-runners.
Further down the field, Esteban Ocon was a surprise performer in P7 for Haas with a great bounceback after the Melbourne GP— while rookie Kimi Antonelli continued his strong start to the season with P8, despite a rough final stint.
Alex Albon and Oliver Bearman completed the top 10 in a race that saw no safety cars, leading to teams needing to execute perfect strategies and pace to gain places.

F1 China GP biggest winners
Oscar Piastri – The Aussie star finally broke through for his first F1 win of the season in flawless fashion. With many tipping teammate Norris to lead the charge, Piastri proved he’s not just the future and will fight for his first Drivers Championship.
Esteban Ocon – Haas fans had something to cheer for as Ocon muscled his way to P7. He was long odds with BetOnline to finish in the top 10 but delivered under pressure in a clean, composed race.
McLaren – A one-two finish and clear strategy supremacy has McLaren looking like the top dogs early in the season. They’re now even shorter for the Constructors Championship with F1 betting apps.
2025 F1 China GP’s biggest blunders
Red Bull – It wasn’t a disaster, but Red Bull missed a trick by pitting Verstappen during a slower window, costing him a shot at the podium. An uncertain car delivered to them every week is going to cost them major championship points for the Constructors title.
Rookies – While Antonelli and Bearman did well, Hadjar, Doohan and Bortoleto all finished outside the points and were largely anonymous throughout the race.
