Omei Sword’s Golden Rose odds shorten after ideal barrier draw
BOOM three-year-old Omei Sword will enter Saturday’s Golden Rose as the $3.20 favourite at Sportsbet.com.au after a favourable barrier draw heading into the Group 1 race.
Sportsbet moved the filly from the opening quote of $5 to the $3.20 mark on the back of drawing barrier three for Saturday’s feature race at Rosehill.
Last-start winner Astern drew barrier 12 and subsequently blew out in the market, easing to $3.80 after being installed as the $3.20 favourite.
First-up winner Divine Prophet ($4.60) is the only other runner under double figures.
Astern has never raced beyond 1,200m, but jockey Tommy Berry is confident the Godolphin colt will not have an issue running out the additional distance on Saturday.
“Astern has the form on the board and his win the other day was electrifying,” Berry said.
“Obviously if (Divine Prophet) gives Astern a big (start) he will be hard to run down but my bloke will be very strong at the end of 1400m.
“I’m confident I’ve got the right horse for the right race and I believe he will be very hard to beat.”
Despite Berry’s confidence, all Golden Rose buzz is around the Chris Waller trained filly.
Omei Sword was not a certain starter heading into Saturday, but Sportsbet representative Ben Bulmer said once the confirmation came that the Silver Shadow Stakes winner would take her place, the market responded.
“Waller kept everyone guessing, but once Omei Sword was a confirmed starter she firmed right in.” Bulmer said.
“There’s no denying that Astern is the one to beat, but the wide barrier just makes it that bit tougher,’’
