Old fold hope to reign Supreme at Randwick
Tim Clark will renew an association with the Anthony Freedman stable at Randwick.
Anthony Freedman rarely comes away from a Sydney raid empty-handed and he will have two bites of the cherry at the Apollo Stakes day meeting at Randwick.
The Victorian trainer will start Blue Diamond Stakes winner Lyre in the Group Two Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) and two-year-old Supreme Idea in the Listed Lonhro Plate (1000m).
Freedman made the trip to Sydney with Santa Ana Lane last autumn and came away with a Group One win in the TJ Smith Stakes with the sprinter also runner-up to Yes Yes Yes in The Everest during the spring.
Supreme Idea was scratched from the Inglis Millennium in preference for Saturday’s race with Tim Clark booked to ride.
And while Clark has not ridden Supreme Idea before, he has complete faith in Freedman’s decision to bring her north.
“They wouldn’t be bringing her up here if they didn’t expect her to run well,” Clark said.
“They don’t travel their horses interstate without thinking they’ve got a really strong chance.”

Clark and Freedman have also enjoyed big race success as a team, combining to claim the 2018 Group One Robert Sangster Stakes with Shoals who, like Supreme Idea, raced in Jonathan Munz’s red and white colours.
A daughter of top sire I Am Invincible, Supreme Idea led throughout to win on debut at Geelong then did not appreciate being cluttered up between horses when midfield in the Blue Diamond Preview at Caulfield.
Clark plans to position her on the speed from her rails draw and says he won’t be afraid to take up the running.
“We will probably try to be positive from the inside draw and be right up there,” Clark said.
“She might even lead, she can do that, and she’s fit which is going to help her with the conditions we’re going too be dealing with on Saturday.”
Randwick was rated a soft 7 on Friday.
Supreme Idea is a $15 chance with early betting dominated by Golden Gift winner Dame Giselle at $1.95.
