Odds, specials and multi tips for A-League, week 18
RIGHT now in the A-League, the only sure thing is that Sydney FC will finish the season on top of the table.
Just six points separates the second-placed Victory and the fourth-placed City, while fifth to eighth have just three points dividing them as the regular season draws to a close.
Other than the league leaders, no one is truly safe in the top-six.
This week we think we have pieced together a magnificent multi which will return a huge price for our readers.
All odds for the 18th week of the A-League season were provided by Sportsbet.com.au, which is offering punters a fantastic inducement for those yet to sign up.
New customers can get their first bet at Sportsbet matched up to the value of $501.
Selections for the week 18 A-League multi:
Sydney FC to beat Brisbane Roar ($2.20)
Wellington Phoenix to defeat Western Sydney Wanderers ($2.30)
Melbourne Victory to beat Melbourne City ($2.30)
Perth Glory to win against Newcastle Jets ($2)
Combined multi value: $23.27 @ Sportsbet.com.au
Brisbane Roar vs. Sydney FC
Friday, February 3 from 7.50 pm AEDST Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane
The Brisbane Roar and Sydney FC clash in the first leg of our A-League multi.
After a tumultuous period of three straight losses, the Brisbane Roar is back in business after recording two wins in a row. The Roar were lucky to win last week against the Wanderers after snatching a late winner but it still counts as a win.
Sydney FC remains undefeated in 2016/17 and recorded arguably their best win of the season last week against Melbourne Victory. The Sky Blues went behind on Australia Day but rallied back to record a sensational win.
We are backing the Sky Blues – as we do almost every week – to maintain their unbeaten run in victory against the Roar on Friday night.
Sydney FC to win – $2.20
Wellington Phoenix vs. Western Sydney Wanderers
Saturday, February 4 from 5.35 pm AEDST, Yarrow Stadium, Taranaki, New Zealand
Two teams who are in dire need of a win if they are to finish inside the top-six meet across the Tasman as the Phoenix host the Wanderers.
Western Sydney were unlucky to not claim at least a point against Brisbane last week. The late goal to the Roar could prove pivotal in the finals race as it leaves Tony Popovic’s men two points adrift of the sixth placed Jets.
The Wanderers are $1.83 to finish inside the top-six at Sportsbet.com.au.
The Phoenix are just one point short of the Jets. They need to control their home ground and record wins against visiting Australian teams.
Wellington is $2.10 at Sportsbet.com.au to finish inside the finals at Sportsbet.com.au.
We are backing the New Zealand team to topple the Wanderers and keep their push towards finals footy rolling on.
Wellington Phoenix to win – $2.30
Melbourne Victory vs. Melbourne City
Saturday, February 4 from 7.50 pm AEDST, Etihad Stadium, Melbourne
It is a huge Melbourne Derby as the Victory and City meet at Etihad Stadium.
This is the third meeting between the teams and the winner will hold the bragging rights for the rest of the year after splitting the results.
The Victory is looking to snap a three game losing streak after winning six straight games. Their last loss against Sydney FC was particularly agonising as Kevin Muscat’s men took the lead in the opening half.
City is looking to get back on the winner’s list after a disappointing 2-1 loss against the Jets. The loss leaves the Manchester City affiliates two wins short of the second placed Victory.
One team will get back on track this week and we believe it will be the Victory. They are too classy to lose four straight games and have too much class across the board.
Melbourne Victory to win – $2.30
Perth Glory vs. Newcastle Jets
Saturday, February 4 from 10 pm AEDST, NIB Stadium, Perth
Newcastle travels across the Nullarbor to face Perth in a huge match which has serious finals ramifications.
One point separates the two teams which means the last leg of our multi is absolutely vital.
Perth is looking to bounce back after a disappointing showing against Central Coast. The Glory never were in the contest and went down 2-0 to arguably the worst team in the competition.
Newcastle kept their finals hopes alive after recording a terrific 2-1 win over City. Andrew Nabbout scored a brace in what has been a sparkling season for the Jets’ attacker.
Nabbout is currently just six goals shy of the Victory’s Berisha in the golden boot race but is at the huge price of $51 at Sportsbet.com.au.
Perth needs to protect their home track and they should do so here. The Glory should get past the Jets to consolidate their position inside the top-six.
