NZ filly has a date at the Sunshine Coast
New Zealand trainer Lance Noble is hoping Save The Date’s Australian success will earn the filly a start at Group Three level.
Save The Date won a 1400m-race on Sunday at Caloundra where Noble hopes she can return to run in two weeks in the Group Three Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m).
The win was a first in Australia for Noble since he left a partnership with Roger James last year.
“It was a big thrill and I’ve had a few placings before and success when I was with Roger, but that was my first one training on my own account,” Noble told NZ Racing Desk.
“Brendan and Jo Lindsay came over as well so it was a great result all round.”
Noble accepted the role last year as the Lindsays’ private trainer after periods in partnership with Jim Gibbs and James,
He now has to wait and hope Save The Date’s win will be enough to secure her place in the Guineas on July 1.
“I’m not sure if she’s got enough prize money to get in the Guineas, but at least she’s given herself a chance now,” Noble said.
“She’s come through the race very well and ate everything up last night.
“Even if she didn’t get in the Guineas there are other options over here for her. She was quite fresh before the race so she is still on an upward plane.”
In 2015, the Sunshine Coast Guineas was run in May and won by future champion Winx who has not been beaten since.
Last year the race was won by Tivaci who went on to win this year’s Group One All Aged Stakes and will stand at stud in the spring.
