NRLW Grand Final 2023 match preview – Knights v Titans
The sixth season of the National Rugby League Women’s Premiership comes to a close on Sunday afternoon as the Newcastle Knights take on the Gold Coast Titans in the 2023 NRLW Grand Final at Accor Stadium in Sydney.
Last weekend, the Knights held off the Brisbane Broncos by six points in a high-scoring affair. Newcastle took an 18-0 lead inside 20 minutes, but the Broncos drew it back to 18-10 at halftime. A back-and-forth second half ended with both sides on five tries, but the flawless kicking of Jesse Southwell proved to be the difference, converting 5/5 compared to Brisbane’s 2/5.
The Titans showed their defensive prowess last week as they beat the Sydney Roosters 12-0. Scoring a try in each half, the Titans were able to capitalise on their few opportunities to impact the scoreboard. Coming into the match as underdogs, the Titans played a brand of rugby league that minimised mistakes both offensively and defensively, and they will be looking to do the same this Sunday.
After such strong performances last weekend, both sides have elected to make no changes as they look to bring that momentum into the NRLW Grand Final.

Knights v Titans NRLW Grand Final betting predictions
Suffering just one loss this season, way back in round two, the Knights rightly come into this match as favourites as they look to become back-to-back premiers. However, the Titans have only lost two matches this season and have a combined score of 92-22 over the last four weeks – an incredible rise from winning the wooden spoon in 2022.
Even so, we are backing the Knights as the favourites to win this one, proving too strong offensively for the Titans. They come in at -192.31 with Unibet.
With six tries in 10 games this season, Knights centre Abigail Roache has been a constant threat on the left side. After a stellar two-try performance in round nine, Roache was quiet last weekend and will be looking to improve here. We’re backing her in as an anytime scorer at +290 with top NRLW bookmakers.
With the two best defensive sides in the NRLW facing off, we are expecting this match to be a gritty, low-scoring contest. Take this one to go under the total points line of 37.5 at -111.11.
NRLW Grand Final key matchup: Upton v Pelite
Tamika Uptonvs Evania Pelite |
Fullback | Position | Fullback |
26 | Games | 23 |
17 | Tries | 9 |
Fresh off winning the NRLW Dally M Medal during the week, Newcastle fullback Tamika Upton will be looking to cap off her incredible season with a premiership. With five tries this season and averaging 221 running metres per game, Upton will be a constant problem all day for the Titans defence.
In an excellent defensive performance last week, Titans fullback Evania Pelite was the centre of everything offensively with 263 running metres, including 82 post-contact. Also scoring five tries this season, the Titans will be looking for her to get on the scoresheet if they are to have any chance of scoring an upset win.
