The New Zealand Warriors will end a difficult three-year period in their history when they host the Gold Coast Titans this Saturday to round out the season.

The Warriors ran into a buzzsaw in their last start against a full-strength Penrith, while the Titans had an entertaining win over the Knights on the Gold Coast.

The Warriors in the last three years have had to endure more ups and downs than any team in the NRL as they were temporarily displaced to keep the competition alive during the coronavirus pandemic.

It has led to plenty of heavy defeats, with the odd bright day here and there, but they get a fantastic chance to put a bow on this era of Warriors football with a game at Mt Smart.

The club has bought every ticket available for the match, meaning fans just had to call up to get free entry, which will guarantee an awesome atmosphere to spur their local heroes on.

The Warriors are the $1.54 favourite with online bookmakers largely on the back of their form at the venue since they returned in July. They got big wins over the Tigers and Bulldogs and made life challenging for the Storm, so there is plenty of belief that they can do the same against a fellow bottom four side.

The -5.5 handicap is far too skinny based on what they’ve produced at Mt Smart, so that $1.90 should be thrown into your same game multi.

Players such as Reece Walsh and Chanel Harris-Tevita should be given consideration as anytime tryscorers as well. Players who are in their farewell appearance have a knack of crossing the stripe, so be sure to pick one and ride them home.

The Titans have pulled themselves off the bottom of the ladder with big wins at home against the Sea Eagles and the Knights. While a loss here would leave them potentially on the same amount of points as the Tigers, their differential will almost certainly mean they can’t finish with another wooden spoon.

While they’re still leaking a ton of points, they’ve simply outscored their opponents with a touch-football mentality, and against the Warriors they’re going to have to show some steel to deal with their big forward pack.

The Titans also have to contend with the fact they have just one win at the ground in more than a decade, so how badly do they want to get one more victory to end the season on a positive note?

The last two wins they’ve had at home are the only performances in 2022 where they definitively outplayed their opposition and deserved to win, and to avoid the wooden spoon in a season like that is almost a miracle.

What that indicates is the Gold Coast will have a feeling of mission accomplished, and the +5.5 head start won’t be enough. They’re ripe to have a score put on them.

AJ Brimson’s sensational performance last week makes him a fantastic option to score a try at $2.90 with BetOnline, so be sure to include him in your multis.

Key matchup: Addin Fonua-Blake vs Tino Fa’asuamaleaui

The two big boppers up front are hard to go past. Addin Fonua-Blake and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui will collide and Mt Smart might not be big enough for the two of them.
