NRL SuperCoach R14 preview & top trades
Round 14 is one of the more difficult weeks to navigate in NRL SuperCoach, with players being named to back up from the first State of Origin match without guarantee. Coaches will need to keep an eye on final teamsheets prior to kickoff for each match in order to ensure they are not caught short by any late outs.

TRADE OUT
Latrell Mitchell (FLB)
The calf injury Latrell Mitchell sustained in the New South Wales Blues camp has sent ripples through not only Origin and the NRL, but also SuperCoach. The Rabbitohs fullback has no confirmed return date, nor is there any news on whether he might feature in the Origin series. Owned by 16% of coaches at over $800k with an incredibly high breakeven, he has become a must-trade with in-form players like Dylan Edwards, William Kennedy and Nick Meaney having had two byes and holding no prospects of playing representative football this season.
Ben Trbojevic (CTW/2RF)
The ownership percentage for Ben Trbojevic almost doubled when he was named to start in the second row for the Sea Eagles in round 12 against the Raiders. Injuries to Josh Aloiai and Kelma Tuilagi suggested he had plenty of job security, but he has since sustained a hamstring injury and doesn’t have a definite return date. Coaches will need to accept the wasted trade and look to players like Rocco Berry, Valynce Te Whare and Blake Wilson who have price increases to come.
Lachlan Miller (FLB/CTW)
Owners of Lachlan Miller would have been reeling last week when he was named to come off the interchange bench for the Knights against the Sea Eagles. Insult was added to injury when he did not make it onto the field. The Knights have two byes to come in rounds 14 and 19 with no guarantee that Kalyn Ponga — who reverted to fullback last week — will be recalled to the Queensland State of Origin side. Coaches should be looking at their options immediately to move Miller on.
TRADE IN
Valynce Te Whare (CTW)
Valynce Te Whare cemented cult hero status during Magic Round with his double against the Cronulla Sharks, displaying his incredibly strong ball-carrying and tackle-breaking ability. The union convert came off the interchange bench last week against the Dragons for a few minutes, guaranteeing price changes in round 14 should he make it onto the field. With a breakeven below zero, coaches should certainly look at bringing the Dolphins centre into their side — especially if he start this weekend against the Warriors.
Blake Wilson (CTW/FLB)
In his debut in round 11 against the Warriors, Blake Wilson showed that, given time on the field, he is a brilliant cheapy option for coaches. Wilson has been named to start for the Bulldogs with Josh Addo-Carr being named in the reserves as the only concern. Given Addo-Carr is expected to take part in all three Origin matches for the Blues this series, Wilson will get more starts on the wing. Coaches should certainly look at Wilson as an option to trade in provided Addo-Carr does not back up from Origin I on Wednesday.
Briton Nikora (2RF)
Briton Nikora should be the number one target for coaches in their 2RF position, for several reasons. The Sharks have already had two of their three byes for the season, with their third coming in round 17 with the Bulldogs and Tigers also having the bye. His main partner-in-crime, Nicho Hynes, is not expected to play big minutes throughout the upcoming Origin series, which should see the Sharks halfback return from each game for his club side. This will boost Nikora’s point-scoring potential even more, making him a must-have for the run into the finals.
