Round 19: Sea Eagles v Knights match preview

Round 19 of the NRL Premiership wraps up on Sydney’s northern beaches, with the high-flying Manly Sea Eagles hosting the battling Newcastle Knights at 4 Pines Park in Brookvale.

The Sea Eagles secured a one-point win over the Cowboys in Townsville last weekend, making it three wins from their last five matches. The club now sits in eighth spot on the NRL ladder with a chance to solidify their position in the top eight.

The Knights come into this match with winning form behind them after wins against the Eels and the Raiders in Canberra. A win for Newcastle could see them knock both the Cowboys and Sea Eagles out of the top eight, lifting them up to seventh on the ladder.

Anthony Seibold will be without Sea Eagles representative stars Daly Cherry-Evans and Jake Trbojevic along with injured duo Tolutau Koula (knee) and Ben Trbojevic (concussion).
Tom Trbojevic will captain the side from fullback, Tommy Talau will move to the centres, with Lehi Hopoate being promoted to the starting wing position, and Jamie Humphreys named for his NRL debut at halfback.

Karl Lawton will replace Trbojevic in the second row with Nathan Brown named to lock the scrum. Gordon Chan Kum Tong will come off the interchange bench alongside Corey Waddell and Clayton Faulalo who will also make his NRL debut.

Manly Sea Eagles v Newcastle Knights predictions

The Sea Eagles have not tasted defeat in their last five clashes with the Knights, including a 32-all draw in round five of the 2023 NRL season. Having won in seven of their last eight appearances at 4 Pines Park and with stronger winning form on their side, expect Manly to win and cover the line set at 7.5 at $1.90 with leading sports bookmakers.

Tom Trbojevic will be captaining his Sea Eagles side from fullback, where he has scored at least one try in seven of his last eight appearances at his home ground. He made a solid return from injury last week, recording three tackle breaks in just 90 running metres. From the back, he will have more opportunities to have his hands on the ball, making the $1.72 anytime try-scoring price very attractive.

Reuben Garrick has struggled throughout this season with various injuries. He is taking on the Knights at an important time in the season since Garrick has scored a try in each of his last two matches against Newcastle. Look for him to return to scoring form at a solid $2.30 price.
