NRL: Adam Reynolds confirmed as Brisbane Broncos captain in 2025
Adam Reynolds will captain the Brisbane Broncos in the 2025 NRL season, with coach Michael Maguire announcing the news late on Thursday.
The halfback’s fourth year as captain of Broncos was in doubt after the club slumped to 12th on the NRL ladder last year.
However, Maguire reiterated his trust in the 34-year-old as the best man to take Brisbane forward this season.
“I’ve always said ‘Reyno’ is a leader, and it’s very clear to me that this group of players really enjoy playing with him, but importantly, for him,” he said.
“I’ve had a deep connection with Reyno for many years and am proud of his journey.
“I know how hungry he is to keep leading from the front for this group.
“The past few months has given me an opportunity to see the leadership styles we do have in the team, and I’m confident we’ve got the right pieces of the puzzle in this group.
“Everyone brings something different to the table in terms of the way they go about their business, that’s what makes special teams.
“The thing is, everyone should be a leader at this club, from the youngest to the oldest, through our behaviours and our actions every day.
“That needs to be our mindset moving forward.”
Alongside Reynolds, Maguire announced Kotoni Staggs, Ben Hunt, Payne Haas and Pat Carrigan as the senior leaders for the Broncos.
The group have plenty of expectation heading into the 2025 season with NRL bookmakers putting them on the third line of betting to win the title.
Bet365 is paying $8.50 for the Broncos to win their seventh title this year, putting them behind only the Melbourne Storm ($3.75) and Penrith Panthers ($4.33).
Reynolds shared on Thursday that he is up for the task of leading Brisbane into the 2025 season.
“I love being captain of this club, it’s a great honour and means a lot to myself and my family,” he said.
“It feels like home now.
“For me, it’s never been about having the ‘C’ next to my name.
“It’s about being there for my teammates, getting them around the park and taking a lot of that mental load.
“We’ve got a really strong group of senior players here, and having Hunt as part of that now is huge.
“There’s still plenty of work to do, but we hope our members and fans are as excited as we are to get stuck into the season and play some footy.”
Brisbane play their first match of the 2025 NRL campaign against the Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium on Thursday, March 6.
Top online bookmakers put them at $1.78 to begin on a winning note, with the Roosters slight underdogs at $2.05.
