AFL: North Melbourne’s nightmare continues with defeat to Lions
North Melbourne’s rough start to the 2024 AFL season hit a low as they suffered a crushing 70-point loss to the Brisbane Lions at Norwood Oval on Friday night.
North Melbourne, having now lost all of their opening four matches by 25 points or more, struggled to keep up with the Lions, who secured a 16.16 (112) to 6.6 (42) victory.
With seven goals scored by the Brisbane Lions in the first quarter, North Melbourne found themselves unable to mount a comeback throughout the game.
The outcome triggered reactions on social media, with fans of North Melbourne expressing frustration and demanding significant changes within the club.
“This team lacks determination!” exclaimed one fan.
“This is rock bottom.
“People are fed up with excuses; you don’t need skill to put in effort to chase down opponents and defend.
“Professional AFL players should be able to execute passes.”
Having landed in the bottom four in three of the past four seasons, North Melbourne’s last appearance in the finals was back in 2016.
Coach Alastair Clarkson expressed disappointment with his team’s performance.
As North Melbourne look for answers, it is clear that fans and the top AFL bookmakers are losing faith and patience.
Priced as $10 odds for their game against Geelong in round five, and at $501 to claim the premiership, can the North Melbourne Kangaroos turn around their horrible form?
