The North Melbourne Kangaroos will host their first game of the 2022 AFL season at Blundstone Arena this Sunday, when they face off with an experienced Geelong Cats.
Chris Scott has put together one of the most veteran and well-versed teams in modern history, as almost half the players in their side are above the age of 30.
On the contrary, the Roos will hope their young squad of developing players can pinch their second win of the season at their home away from home.
Two of the more experienced players for North Melbourne Kangaroos have already been ruled out through injury and illness, as Aaron Hall pulled his hamstring last week and Jaidyn Stephenson is out of the side again.
The last clash between these sides in Hobart resulted in a close, combative contest that could’ve gone either way, but it was the Cats who escaped with a 20-point victory on the day.
Aaron Hall was North’s best on the day with his 36 disposals, meaning they have a huge void to fill this AFL weekend in his absence.
Another problem stemming from the injury is the loss of an experienced small defender, which is an area the Roos have struggled with for a while now, so you can expect Geelong Cats’ mosquito fleet to reap the rewards.
Key matchup: Patrick Dangerfield vs Luke Davies-Uniacke
Winning the ball out of the midfield will be critical to winning this contest, and we think there is a mouth-watering matchup worth keeping an eye on. Luke Davies-Uniacke is only just getting his career as in inside midfielder started, but there are plenty of signs he is going to play a similar role to the 2016 Brownlow Medallist, Patrick Dangerfield.

Both players have power and speed that helps them burst through packs, while their knack for putting their head over the footy allows them to rack up the disposals. LDU is a very intriguing player as his best games are dominant, while he can easily go missing too. We think Sunday will be a good day for the young Roo against Danger, so look to target him in the disposal betting markets.
North Melbourne vs Geelong betting tips
Geelong Cats to win by 1-39
We originally wanted to take the Roos at the line, but given they will be without Aaron Hall and Jaidyn Stephenson, Geelong 1-39 feels like the right choice. The one-sided match betting odds suggest the Cats are going to feast on North Melbourne, but we think the home side will put up another valiant effort in Hobart and keep the margin within the six-goal range.
Geelong Cats To Win By 1-39
Tyson Stengle to kick 2+ goals
Tyson Stengle is starting to warm up for the Cats after kicking eight goals in the opening five rounds, which could have easily been more since he has also kicked eight behinds. Stengle is fun to watch since he knows how to rove packs and kick clever goals at ground level, and we think he is finally comfortable enough in the system to start having a bigger impact on the scoreboard.

Nth Melbourne vs Geelong Same game multi
The Cats will win on the road in Hobart with their superior experience, but do not underestimate the Shinboners, as they will make Geelong work hard for the win. Tyson Stengle to kick a couple while Luke Davies-Uniacke shines in the middle playing the Ben Cunnington role.
Geelong Cats 1-39 / Stengle 2+ goals / Luke Davies-Uniacke 25+ disposals
