North Melbourne v Collingwood R14 match preview

Collingwood will be looking to continue their climb up the AFL ladder this Sunday afternoon as they face North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium.

The Magpies enter as heavy favourites at $1.10 with Unibet, while the Kangaroos have odds of $7.50 with Bet365. The line is set at 40.5 points, offering value for anyone who thinks North can keep it interesting.

Last Saturday, the Kangaroos finally secured their first win of the season as they beat West Coast by eight points at Optus Stadium. In a low-scoring affair, Alastair Clarkson’s side kept the Eagles to just two goals up to three-quarter-time. However, after conceding a run of six straight goals, it became a tense finish before forward Paul Curtis kicked the sealer.

Despite the win, North Melbourne’s season has been incredibly disappointing. At $1.25 with top AFL bookmakers, they are the red-hot favourites for the wooden spoon.

The Roos will be without young key defender Wil Dawson (shoulder) this week, opening the door for Bigoa Nyuon to play his first senior game since round seven. Meanwhile, speedy defender Miller Bergman is set to return from a hamstring injury.

Collingwood continued their solid run of form in round 13, beating Melbourne by 38 points in the King’s Birthday clash. In a one-sided clash, the Magpies won every quarter while conceding just six goals for the day.

With just one loss from their past 10 matches, Craig McRae’s men have quickly re-emerged as premiership contenders. Despite sitting in sixth spot, top sports betting sites are giving the Pies odds of $2.40 to finish in the top four.

Despite being subbed out of Monday’s clash, there are no concerns around Collingwood star Nick Daicos. There aren’t any other forced changes this week, with many of the club’s injured players expected to return after their round 15 bye.

North Melbourne v Collingwood betting strategy

Although North Melbourne are coming off their first win of the year, don’t expect a similar result this week. The Magpies should be far too strong across the ground, and there is no reason to suggest they won’t cover the handicap of -40.5 at $1.91 with top AFL betting sites.

Returning from injury in round 13, North Melbourne co-captain Jy Simpkin was the difference with 28 disposals and two goals. Having struggled at times this season while playing a hybrid role, the 26-year-old looks set to stay as a full-time midfielder. A fit and firing Simpkin offers great value to find 25 or more disposals at $3.75 with the best Australian bookies.

With an extensive injury list, Collingwood have been forced to rely on younger players to step up, such as small forward Harvey Harrison. The 20-year-old has grown into his role since making his debut in round seven, kicking three goals in two of his last three matches. With the Kangaroos holding the worst defensive record in the AFL, back Harrison to kick two or more goals at $2.40 with top online bookmakers.
