Noire to be aimed at black type

Jockey Kerrin McEvoy rides Noire to win race 4
Noire has claimed her first Saturday victory at Rosehill – her fourth win from eight starts.

Syndicator Denise Martin has already had Group One success with one Foxwedge offspring and is hoping another can step up.

Noire claimed her fourth win from eight starts at Rosehill on Saturday and while she is a little behind her Chris Waller-trained stablemate Foxplay at the same stage of her career, her first Saturday victory was an important step.

Sent out the $2.70 favourite in the ATC Owners Benefit Cards (1400m), Noire settled in behind the leaders and pulled out what was needed in the final stages to beat Miss Ballantine ($11) by a length, with Queen Misty ($7) another 1-1/4 lengths third.

Waller’s racing manager Charlie Duckworth said Noire had a future.

“We think she can get to stakes level,” Duckworth said.

“She’s taken forever to mature but she is what she is and there is plenty of upside.

“We will be looking at better races for her in about six months time.”

Martin asked jockey Kerrin McEvoy in jest if Noire could be the next Foxplay.

McEvoy was circumspect but said she had the right attributes to do well.

“It looked a nice ride for her today from barrier one and she got the job done,” he said.

“She’s light on her feet and she has a good turn of foot and a good attitude.

“She’s got the 1400-metre box ticked now so that’s always a plus.

“She definitely loves being a racehorse, that’s for sure.”

Martin paid $135,000 for Noire at the Easter sale and syndicated her to a large group who have now collected almost $160,000 from her four wins and two placings.

Foxplay cost $160,000 and has earned $1.3 million from five wins including the Group One Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) in April.

Earlier, their stablemate Sparky Lad caused a minor upset when the $5 chance outgunned the $2.50 favourite Heliosphere to win #theraces Plate (1400m).

Heliosphere got little peace three-wide while Sparky Lad had a perfect run throughout to win by a long head.
