Niedorp to chase Magic Night after win

Niedorp will probably head to Sydney for the Group Two Magic Night Stakes.

Talented filly Niedorp has lived up to her trial form to earn a crack at the Sydney autumn with a Doomben win.

Niedorp ($7) went straight to the front and was never headed, beating stablemate Perudo ($2.50) by a long neck with four lengths to Raay of Dreams ($6.50) third in Saturday’s $125,000 Jewel Prelude (1200m).

The filly is not eligible to run in the $500,000 Aquis Jewel on March 16 but will probably head to Sydney for the Group Two Magic Night Stakes at Rosehill the same day.

“Niedorp is in the Golden Slipper but she would probably be just on the edge of a start after picking up $72,500 today,” Gollan said.

“But before I commit her I obviously want to see how she pulls up.”

Niedorp, who cost $270,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions Sales, was Gollan’s early season star after winning a trial but was beaten at her first run by Mishani Spirit in Toowoomba in October.

“We spelled her and she has won another trial since but it is always hard to win first up at 1200m,” Gollan said.

The win ended a frustrating mini run of seconds, with Gollan in the runners-up stall seven times in the past three days.

Perudo will continue to the Aquis Jewel but trainer Pat Duff will look for something easier than The Jewel with Hay Saya who ran fourth.
