Nick Daicos injury shakes up 2023 Brownlow Medal betting
Betting on the 2023 Brownlow Medal was flipped on its head on Saturday afternoon when Collingwood’s Nick Daicos suffered a medium-term injury.
Prior to the weekend, Daicos was a $1.70 favourite with AFL betting sites for this year’s Brownlow Medal, but his injury in Round 21 of the 2023 AFL season sparked chaos in Brownlow betting markets.
A hairline fracture to Daicos’ leg, has now seen Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli installed as a $2.25 favourite for the Brownlow Medal, whilst 2021 Norm Smith Medallist Christian Petracca is on the second line of betting at $2.75.
Many experts believe Daicos (now $6) may still have too big of a lead for his rivals to chase down, but following a quiet month and considering he will not be seen on a football field until at least the second week of the AFL finals, there is seemingly a Brownlow Medal to be won.
Daicos, who recently signed a six-year contract extension to remain at Collingwood, was without a doubt the best player in the competition for the first 16 rounds of the season, but his form had slightly tapered off over the past month.
On numbers alone, Daicos looks the one to beat on Brownlow Medal night, but there looks to be plenty of value on offer for those who can finish the year off in style with three rounds to be played.
Adelaide’s Jordan Dawson ($21) and Port Adelaide’s ($21) are seemingly the best of the rest, but the likes of Tim Taranto ($26), Lachie Neale ($34), Connor Rozee ($41), Errol Gulden ($41) and Toby Greene ($51) all present incredible value for the award handed to the fairest and best player of the AFL home and away season.
