49ers v Seahawks NFL game preview
The San Francisco 49ers will be looking to turn their form around when they face the Seahawks in Seattle this Friday (AEDT) to kick off NFL Week 6.
A poor start to the season continued for the 49ers last weekend, when they fell to the Cardinals by one point. Despite leading 23-10 at half-time, Kyle Shanahan’s team crumbled under pressure and conceded 14 unanswered points in the second half.
At 2-3, the reigning NFC champions have been disappointing. However, given that all three defeats have come in one-score games, there is no major cause for concern.
Additionally, the 49ers rank second in the NFL for total offensive yards, so it is no surprise to see them enter this game as -188.68 favourites with Marantelli Bet.
There are concerns around San Fran defensive trio Charvarius Ward (knee), Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (calf) and Jordan Elliott (knee), as they did not practice earlier this week. Meanwhile, the 49ers have signed veteran kicker Matthew Wright to cover for the injured Jake Moody (ankle).
It was also a disappointing performance from the Seahawks in Week 5, as they fell to the Giants by nine points. Although they entered as heavy favourites, Seattle struggled to crack open the Giants defense. With under a minute to play, they had an opportunity to tie the game with a field goal, but it was blocked and returned for a touchdown.
After starting the season 3-0, Seattle have now lost two in a row. Quarterback Geno Smith remains the NFL leader in passing yards and the Seahawks are in the top 10 for points scored, yet they are home underdogs for this clash at +155 with leading NFL bookmakers.
Following his first game of the season against the Giants, Seattle linebacker Uchena Nwosu is now expected to go back on IR after suffering a thigh injury. Defensive trio Tariq Woolen, Byron Murphy and Derick Hall are also in doubt after missing practice.
49ers @ Seahawks NFL Week 6 betting strategy
While they have been far from convincing, there have still been plenty of positive signs for the 49ers — particularly on offense. The Seahawks have been poor defensively over the past two weeks and look set to struggle again without some of their big names. San Francisco have won each of the last five meetings between these teams, so back them to cover the line of -3.5 points at -111.11 with major NFL betting sites.
In a matchup between two of the top passing offenses in the NFL, expect this to be a high-scoring affair. Both teams have gone over the points line in four of their last five matches, and they both average over 20 points scored and conceded per game this season. At -111.11 with top online bookies, back this match to go over 47.5 total points.
San Francisco tight end George Kittle has been a reliable performer in an inconsistent team, scoring a touchdown in each of his last three games. Coming off a season-high 12 targets against the Cardinals, back Kittle to find the endzone once again at +160 with leading sports betting sites.
