NBL24 Round 3 betting preview, tips & odds – October 12-15, 2023

NBL24 Round 3 Betting Preview
Round two delivered upsets, huge plays, and performances some teams would rather forget while key individuals stood up and moved into the MVP frame this early in the NBL 2023-2024 season.

Tasmania JackJumpers vs Illawarra Hawks

Thursday, October 12 – MyState Bank Arena (7.30PM AEDT)

Tasmania JackJumpers continue to be the giant killers of the league, with wins against defending champions Sydney Kings (80-72) and title favourites Melbourne United (80-75) in round two.

Illawarra Hawks, with one win and a loss to start the season, will look forward to another high-scoring game, as was the case against the Phoenix last Saturday, with a total of 219 points scored between the sides.

Brisbane Bullets vs Sydney Kings

Friday, October 13 – Nissan Arena (7:30PM AEST)

Brisbane were close to going 3-0 to start the season for the first time in two decades when they were cut down by the Cairns Taipans (89-86) on Saturday and will be in it for a long way towards another home win.

The defending champions won their first road game against the Hawks in the opening round before going down to the JackJumpers 80-72 in Tasmania.

A lot may change if the Baynes-Forde investigation bares fruit and eventual suspensions come for the Brisbane center.

Perth Wildcats vs Melbourne United

Friday, October 13 – RAC Arena (7:30PM AWST)

The Wildcats host the United after a gritty 82-75 win against the 36ers in the last round at home.
This game has the potential to be high-scoring and is set up to be one of the games of the season, with young gun Luke Travers shaping up against his former team and a matchup between two of the league’s best, Chris Goulding and Bryce Cotton.

Melbourne United remain the firm +250 bookmaker favourites to take the title this season, but were beaten narrowly, 80-75, by a JackJumpers side that was allowed to score 7 unanswered points with 1.26 on the clock.

Adelaide 36ers vs Illawarra Hawks

Saturday, October 14 – Adelaide Entertainment Centre (5PM ACDT)

Adelaide coach CJ Bruton has been given the opportunity to build a team and bring in key pieces, such as former Bullet Jason Cadee, rather than inherit a squad. The 36ers have yet to register a win from four games, however, going down to the Brisbane Bullets (86-71), Melbourne United (82-74), Perth Wildcats (82-75), and Sydney Kings (109-100).

The Hawks will look to outshoot the 36ers when they head to Adelaide and continue to feed the ball to those players who showed that potent scoring ability in their win against the Phoenix: captain Tyler Harvey (20pts), Justin Robinson (26pts) and Mr. Reliable Sam Froling (17pts and 8 rebounds).

South East Melbourne Phoenix vs Tasmania JackJumpers

Saturday, October 14 – John Cain Arena (8PM AEDT)

The Phoenix will be happy to return to John Cain Arena and hope to use the home-court advantage to register their second win for the season, after going down to the Hawks 113-106 in their last game.

The JackJumpers are on a two-game win streak, and even coming up against a team led by league veteran Mitch Creek, the Tasmanian outfit has weapons of their own, such as Milton Doyle, who is already being touted as a potential league MVP.

Melbourne United vs Brisbane Bullets

Sunday, October 15 – John Cain Arena (2PM AEDT)

The loss to the JackJumpers in the last round is sure to be considered a minor bump in the road for the United as they are back home in this game. Coach Dean Vickerman will have the starting unit of Chris Goulding, Ariel Hukporti, Luke Travers, Matt Dellavedova regroup, with the latter three being kept to single digit scoring in the loss.

The Bullets signed Aron Baynes to fill the void of a big that the squad had been missing for at least the past five seasons. On his day, the ‘Big Banger’ can fire up, but as was the case in the loss to Cairns, temper can get the best of him, and Brisbane will need him at his potent best for this one, minus the foul trouble and arguing with officials.

Sydney Kings vs Perth Wildcats

Sunday, October 15 – Qudos Bank Arena (4PM AEDT)

As was the case last year when winning the title, the Sydney Kings bench is elite, and any other team could potentially be a starting five. In the first home game for the Kings on Sunday, the bench scored 40, with 14 of those from the hands of former Taipan Kout Noi and nine being contributions from three-season King Angus Glover.

The Wildcats have won both home games but lost 110-99 on the road against Phoenix, a trend that needs to end if you plan to be contenders for the title. Former Taipan Keanu Pinder has yet to show his hand in terms of ability with his new side, and this game has the potential to be take-off time for #25.
