NBL Round 15 preview, tips & betting predictions | January 10 – 14
The NBL season is reaching the business end, and the finals picture is starting to take shape. With each result affecting the standings, every match means more and this weekend we have eight matches of top-quality Australian basketball. Here are our previews for round 15 of the 2023-24 NBL Season:
Brisbane Bullets vs Tasmania JackJumpers preview
Wednesday, January 10 – 6:30pm AEST – Nissan Arena
Winners of their past two matches, the Brisbane Bullets have worked their way back into the top six at the right time of the season. Despite being one of the lowest-scoring sides in the NBL, guard Nathan Sobey has been excellent, leading the way with over 20 points per game. Despite sitting in third place, the JackJumpers travel up to Brisbane in inconsistent form after losing four of their past six. Both matches between the sides this season have been decided by three points or less, so expect another cracking game here.
Brisbane Heat +2.5
Adelaide 36ers vs Sydney Kings preview
Thursday, January 11 – 7:00pm ACDT – Adelaide Entertainment Centre
At the bottom of the standings and out of contention for the finals, the Adelaide 36ers have had a terrible season so far. Now looking to spoil the party for other teams, they welcome a vulnerable Sydney Kings side that has lost four of their past five. At risk of dropping out of the top six, this is a must-win match for the Kings, but given their current form, don’t be surprised if there is an upset here.
Adleaide 36ers to win
New Zealand Breakers vs Melbourne United preview
Friday, January 12 – 7:30pm NZDT – TSB Stadium
One of the form sides of the NBL, the Breakers four-match winning streak came to an end against the Wildcats last week. Facing another tough challenge, they welcome the first-placed Melbourne United this week. Despite sitting three matches clear at the top of the standings, United have lost two of their last three and will be keen to return to their dominant best. Expect plenty of points as two of the highest-scoring sides in the NBL face off.
Over 181.5 total points
Tasmania JackJumpers vs Illawarra Hawks preview
Friday, January 12 – 7:30pm AEDT – MyState Bank Arena
Facing a quick turnaround from their match on Wednesday, the Tasmania JackJumpers welcome the most in-form team in the NBL, the Illawarra Hawks. After a horrid start to the season, the Hawks have had a mid-season resurgence, winning five of their past six matches to climb up to sixth in the standings. The JackJumpers got the win when they faced each other just two weeks ago, but the Hawks are now in much better form as they look for an upset on the road.
Tasmanian JackJumpers -5.5
Cairns Taipans vs Adelaide 36ers preview
Saturday, January 13 – 4:30pm AEST – Cairns Convention Centre
On Saturday afternoon, the bottom two sides of the NBL face off as the Taipans host the 36ers. Holding onto their finals hopes by a thread, this is a must-win match for the Taipans, who have lost three of their past four. Playing their second match of the weekend, the 36ers will be looking for an upset. Watch out for an exciting guard battle between Patrick Miller and Dejan Vasiljevic, who each lead their teams in scoring.
Perth Wildcats vs South East Melbourne Phoenix preview
Saturday, January 13 – 5:00pm AWST – RAC Arena
Tumbling down the standings after losing five of their last six, the SEM Phoenix now face another tough matchup as they head to Perth. The Wildcats are in excellent form, sitting second with four wins from their five matches. With 13 wins expected to secure a finals position, expect the Wildcats to secure their place this weekend while the Phoenix struggles continue.
Brisbane Bullets vs Illawarra Hawks preview
Sunday, January 14 – 1:00pm AEST – Nissan Arena
Right on the verge of the finals positions, this match is critical for both sides, as they sit in the logjam of sides at around .500. Both sides come into this match on winning streaks, but with the Hawks winning five of their past six, they are the form side of the NBL. The previous match between the sides this season was decided by just one point, so hopefully we get another exciting contest in Brisbane.
Sydney Kings vs New Zealand Breakers preview
Sunday, January 14 – 4:00pm AEDT – Qudos Bank Arena
Closing out Round 15, the Kings host the Breakers as both sides play their second match of the weekend. Despite their positions in the standings, it is the eighth-placed Breakers who enter this match as the in-form team. However, the home side has won each of the past five matches between the sides. With the potential for both teams to sit out of the finals positions at the end of the round, expect this match to be a thriller.
