‘Mullet Men’ out in force to support Cam Smith at Australian PGA
Cricket has its Barmy Army, tennis has The Fanatics, and State of Origin has the Blatchy Blues.
Now, through the deeds of the long-haired Cameron Smith, golf has its ‘Mullet Men’.
The founding five members — all from the Redland Bay Golf Club, where with Cameron’s grandfather ‘Smithy’ is a member — turned up at Royal Queensland on Friday wearing polo shirts they designed themselves.
They presented Smith with one of their special shirts before his second round today at the Australian PGA Championship, offering him membership to the ‘Mullet club’.
“We’re a bunch of avid golfers from Redland Bay, where his grandfather plays,” said the group’s spokesman, Mark, sporting a mullet haircut.
“I’m a big fan of the mullet. It’s Aussie living, isn’t it?
“It’s coming back.
“Cameron should be the ambassador for the new-age mullet.”

In a nice touch, Leonie Lyle — the wife of Jarrod Lyle, who died of cancer in 2018 at the age of 36 — announced the players on the first tee.
The groups included tournament favourites Smith and Adam Scott and Kiwi Ryan Fox.
Smith’s manager, Ian Davis, said the shirts were great.
“They’re absolutely first class,” he told BettingSite.com.au.
“It never ceases to amaze me what sporting fans are prepared to do.
“If that doesn’t get people’s attention I don’t know what will.
“It reminds of the football, cricket and tennis fans.”
