Mornington winners head on different paths

The careers of two Mornington winners are set to head in different directions.

Lindsay Park has Group One aspirations for Wednesday’s maiden winner Domesticated while Lock And Loaded, who landed his second successive win at the beachside track, is likely to do his future racing in Malaysia.

Ben Hayes, who trains in partnership with his father David and cousin Tom Dabernig, says the stable is eyeing the Adelaide carnival late in the autumn with Domesticated.

The filly was having her third career start when successful in the 1500m Main Street Mornington Plate on Wednesday.

“Dad’s pretty bullish about her. He thinks the further she gets the better,” Hayes said.

The Australasian Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville and the SA Fillies Classic (2500m) next May are likely target races for the filly..

“The way she won today was impressive and we’ll find a race for her in about three weeks time,” Hayes said.

“We’ll give her another run and then a little freshen-up and get her ready for the autumn.”

Lock And Loaded scored his fourth win for the stable of Mitchell Beer and Max Hinton with his victory in the Highview Accounting Mornington Plate.

It was his second win on end over the 1500m at Mornington.

Beer, who is now into his second year of training after joining Hinton last December, said Lock And Loaded had always shown ability but also had a few tricks.

Lock And Loaded is part-owned in Malaysia and Beer suggested the gelding would now head that way with a metropolitan win under his belt.

“He’s part-owned by Mr Tang who races quite a lot of horses in Malaysia and who is becoming a really good supporter of our stable,” Beer said.

“Since this horse joined our stable he’s won four races but it’s taken a bit of a quieter environment, taking him to the beach and getting him to 1500 metres to do his best.

“He’s won a couple of (benchmark) 64s and a metro one as well, so he’s done his job.”
