Money starting to come for Blues to win Origin II
AT last, punters are moving some significant money south of the border ahead of Wednesday’s State of Origin clash.
Queensland has hogged the betting for the second game of the series, which is scheduled for 7:30pm AEST on Wednesday, June 21 at ANZ Stadium.
Online bookmaker Sportsbet.com.au reports that more than 80 per cent of all cash wagered on the match has gone to the Maroons.
That trend has forced betting operators to fatten their odds for New South Wales, who had shortened to under -200 in some head-to-head markets after their barnstorming win at Lang Park.
Having pushed them out to -153.85, Sportsbet is now seeing a big boost in support for the Blues.
The bookie has accepted a pair of $5000 bets on NSW to win Origin II – one at -185.19 odds, the other at -166.67.
“No one wanted to back NSW until we brought their price out a touch,” said Sportsbet’s Christian Jantzen.
“Over the past 24 hours we’ve seen three times as much placed on the Blues so the support for QLD has dried up.”
While the tide may be turning, the biggest money remains with Queensland.
Sportsbet claims to have taken several monster wagers on the Maroons to level the series in Sydney.
The largest of those was a $10,000 stake at +130 head-to-head odds.
There was also a punt of $6666.66 on the Canetoads at a slightly shorter +125 quote.
Kevin Walters’ men are also well liked in the margin betting, where they are paying +200 to win by 12 points or fewer.
