Mitchell Marsh resigns with Perth Scorchers

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has re-signed with the Perth Scorchers until 2028 and hopes to play a lot more BBL cricket over the next three years.

The 33-year-old has appeared just once for Perth in the past three editions of the BBL.

However, as his international career tapers off after representing Australia 204 times across all formats, Marsh is eager to knuckle in and finish his career where he started.

“I’m really proud to sign on with the Scorchers, a team that I’ve played with since I was a kid, and a franchise that has looked after me incredibly well,” he said on Friday.

Marsh was not on the Scorchers’ initial list of confirmed players heading into the 2025-26 BBL season, raising doubts about whether he would remain with the Perth-franchise.

However, as the only remaining representative of the club’s original BBL side in 2011, the all-rounder is keen to remain loyal.

“Being a one-club player was a big part of my decision, which was obviously quite an easy decision,” he said.

“I think with the landscape of cricket these days, a lot of us play for a lot of different teams around the world.

“The idea of always coming home and playing for the Scorchers and hopefully finishing my career as a one-club player will be something I’m really proud of in years to come.

“A lot of the guys in this team are not only mates on the field but also some of my best friends in life – Joel Paris, who’s coming back across, was a groomsman at my wedding.

“Playing alongside your best mates is always a special experience.”

The Perth Scorchers entered the 2024-25 season of the BBL as favourites across cricket betting sites to win their sixth title, priced at $4.50 by BetOnline pre-season.

However, a run of four-straight losses mid-season caused the Scorchers to miss the playoffs, finishing fifth by two points.

The Hobart Hurricanes quickly become favourite to win on BBL betting apps instead, topping the ladder with seven wins from 10 and going on to win their maiden title.

Marsh says he watched every minute of Perth’s season and is eager to exact revenge over the coming years.

“I’ve tuned into every game the last few years and tried to feel part of it all,” he said.

“There’s no doubt I’ll be around a lot more the next few years and that’s something I’m really looking forward to.

“It’s all about contributing, trying to add value to our team, and making sure we get back to playing finals and chasing more silverware.”
