Miss becomes Ramsey’s latest Pinup horse

Pinup Miss returns to scale after winning at Newcastle.
Pinup Miss has continued a profitable run for trainer John Ramsey with her win at Newcastle.

John Ramsey has ridden racing’s roller coaster of emotions over the past two weeks but he was back on top at Newcastle with a victory by city cast-off Pinup Miss.

Ten days ago the bush trainer experienced one of his biggest career thrills when Never Listen finished second in the Group One VRC Oaks, although the celebrations were quickly tempered.

“I came off the high there on Wednesday when my horse ran last at Scone, so that didn’t last long,” Ramsey said.

“But it has been a good couple of weeks and that has topped the week off.”

Formerly with Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott at Randwick, Pinup Miss was transferred to Ramsey at the start of her current campaign.

The son of prominent owner-breeder Stuart Ramsey, who is a part-owner of Pinup Miss, John identified Saturday’s race as a campaign target for the four-year-old.

After settling well back, Pinup Miss ($7) rattled home for apprentice Robbie Dolan to win by a half-neck over Miss Redoble ($7) with another half-length to So Taken ($7).

Favourite Vitesse finished fourth after racing on the speed.

Ramsey trains out of Scone in the NSW Hunter Valley and has 26 boxes with 18 horses in work.

He also saddled up Bright Rubick in the Group Three Spring Stakes but the filly’s winning streak came to end when she finished out of placings behind Asiago.
