Michael Freedman to train in Hong Kong

Sydney trainer Michael Freedman will join the Hong Kong training ranks later this year.

Freedman spent eight successful years in Singapore and returned to Australia early last year.

During his time in Singapore, Freedman trained many Group One winners including dual Horse of the Year Super Easy.

Included among his Sydney successes is the Group Three Widden Stakes win by Teaspoon on January 28.

“Michael Freedman was selected from a field of high quality contenders and possesses all the attributes required to succeed in the ultra-competitive Hong Kong environment,” Andrew Harding, executive director, racing authority, at the Hong Kong Jockey Club said.

“… his international experience, and his personal probity and integrity all identify Michael as being an exceptional talent who will make an excellent addition to Hong Kong’s roster of trainers.”

Freedman, one of four brothers to become trainers, said he was excited about the challenge.

“It has been a long-held ambition to train in Hong Kong, which is a world leader in everything that it does,” he said.

“It would be an understatement to say that I am looking forward to this challenge.”

Freedman will take up his position in July ahead of the new season in Hong Kong.
