F1 Mexico GP betting Preview

The Mexico Grand Prix is next up on the Formula One (F1) racing schedule after Ferrari’s stunning performance at the United States GP.

The weekend kicks off with Free Practice 1 at 4:30am AEDT on Saturday, October 26, and the race is set for 6am AEDT on Monday, October 28.

This race has generated plenty of buzz, with speculation that it could be the key reason Sergio Perez has retained his seat at Red Bull. The pressure is on Perez to deliver at his home GP, and bookmakers have him at $51 to win.

The Austin GP was a struggle for McLaren, but Ferrari’s impressive pace is hard to ignore. While the British team still leads the Constructors’ Championship on 544 points, their Italian rivals are not far back on 496 and could take the lead in the coming races. McLaren sit at $1.15, while Ferrari offer $6 odds with Neds.

While Red Bull managed to sneak back onto the podium last week, a repeat performance in Mexico seems unlikely, with McLaren and Ferrari entering the race as favourites.

Lando Norris missed out on crucial points in Austin, making his Drivers’ Championship hopes even slimmer. Sitting on 297 points, he would need to win every remaining race and hope Max Verstappen (354) falters significantly in the run home. Top F1 betting sites have Verstappen as a clear title favourite at $1.20.

Let’s take a look at what this means for punters.

Mexico GP 2024 betting odds

Following Austin, it’s no surprise to see Charles Leclerc starting as the favourite alongside Lando Norris, both priced at -3.25. Max Verstappen, after a stronger finish in Austin, holds third-shortest odds. Mercedes drivers remain steady, priced in the high teens.

Oscar Piastri (McLaren) podium finish

On a track that is far more favourable to McLaren than Austin was, they will be determined to bounce back. Expect Oscar Piastri to start from the second row and push hard for a podium spot early on, securing valuable points in what could be a promising race for the team.

George Russell (Mercedes) podium finish

Last weekend was a write-off for Mercedes, who will be looking for so much more. George Russell had arguably the best race last weekend, and if he had started anywhere near the front, he would have fought for a top-three spot. Expect a better result here, with PlayUp offering $6 for a podium finish.

Liam Lawson (VCARB) points finish

After an impressive climb from P19 to P9, the $3 odds offered at Bet365 are hard to pass up. Liam Lawson’s true potential in qualifying was hidden by his grid penalty, so don’t be surprised if the Kiwi starts in the top seven this weekend.
