Melbourne v Port Adelaide R22 preview
Port Adelaide will be looking to cement their spot inside the top four this Saturday night as they head to the MCG to face Melbourne in round 22 of the 2024 AFL season.
Last Friday, it was a disappointing display from the Demons as they fell to the Western Bulldogs by 51 points. Melbourne started slowly and never recovered, suffering their third straight loss.
Down in 12th spot on the ladder, Simon Goodwin’s men are now out of finals contention in 2024. As expected, they enter this clash as clear outsiders, offering best odds of $3.20 with PlayUp.
Melbourne will be without key defender Steven May this week, leaving them undersized against one of the best tall-forward groups in the AFL. Adam Tomlinson comes in to fill the void, while fellow backmen Christian Salem and Marty Hore replace Blake Howes and Andy Moniz-Wakefield.
Port Adelaide had their fourth-biggest win of all time last Saturday night at Adelaide Oval, smashing the first-placed Sydney Swans by 112 points. It was all one-way traffic for the Power, who kicked the first 71 points en route to their third consecutive victory.
Ken Hinkley’s men have now worked their way up to third on the ladder; however, with the logjam of sides in the mix, leading AFL bookmakers give them odds of $1.91 to remain inside the top four.
Port have been forced into one change after key forward Mitch Georgiades strained his quad in training this week. Todd Marshall, who has missed the past three games with a hip injury, comes in as a like-for-like replacement.

Demons v Power betting strategy
With injuries derailing their season, it is hard to see Melbourne matching Port Adelaide’s quality and intensity. They have won just three of their past nine matches, while the Power have won five of their last six by an average margin of over 43 points. Back the hosts to continue their excellent form, covering the line of 15.5 points at $1.91 with top Australian bookmakers.
One positive that has come from the Demons’ injury struggles has been Trent Rivers’ move into the midfield. The 23-year-old has averaged 25.6 touches per game across the past five weeks, clearing the 25-disposal mark on four occasions. At $1.85 with the best AFL betting sites, back Rivers to continue his good form with 25 or more disposals.
Port Adelaide midfielder Ollie Wines is averaging 28 disposals across the last five weeks. The 2021 Brownlow Medal winner has attended more centre bounces than any other Power player across that period and has collected more than 30 disposals on three occasions. Back Wines to reach the mark once again at $3.60 with top online bookies.
