Undefeated Geelong will travel to the MCG to clash with fourth-placed Melbourne on Saturday night in round eight AFL action.
The Cats have been installed a $1.80 favourite by Neds Australia, with the Demons ($2.20) not without support. The Cats-Demons $1.90 betting line has been set at a narrow 2.5.
Last Saturday, Geelong produced their most impressive win of the season as they defeated Carlton by 13 points. In a high-scoring contest, the Cats were incredibly efficient despite 21 less inside 50s. Star forward Jeremy Cameron led the way with five goals, while Gryan Miers continued his excellent start to the year with 22 disposals and two goals.
After exceeding many expectations already this season, the Cats will now have to prove more doubters wrong, as they enter this clash without captain Patrick Dangerfield. But in more positive news, defender Tom Stewart is expected to return from a concussion protocol layoff.
The Demons were also successful last round as they handed the Tigers a 43-point loss on ANZAC Day eve. Trailing by a point at half-time, Simon Goodwin’s side turned up the heat in the second half, kicking 10 goals to two as they ran out comfortable victors.
Continuing his excellent start to season, Max Gawn was a standout once again with 23 disposals and 26 hitouts. He has more hitouts against the Cats than any other side, so don’t be surprised if Geelong bring in Toby Conway for added support against the most in-form ruck in the AFL.
The Demons won’t be forced into any changes after getting through last round unscathed, but key forward Harrison Petty is in the gun after just one goal in his past five matches with Josh Schache the likely change.

Demons v Cats tips
Back on the MCG for the second consecutive week, the Cats enter this match as slight favourites with top AFL bookmakers. They have won the past two matches between the sides but note that as the Demons are coming off a 10-day break, they will be well rested. It should be an exciting battle between the Cats tall forwards and the Melbourne defence, yet as favourites, it’s hard to go against an undefeated side, so back the Cats at $1.82 with Bet365.
Emerging onto the scene with three goals in his first match of the season last Wednesday, Demons forward Daniel Turner looked particularly dangerous in the air with eight marks. Playing as the third tall, at 194cm, Turner created a constant mismatch with his opponent which gave him plenty of opportunity. With Bayley Fritsch and Jacob Van Rooyen taking most of the attention, back Turner to get on the scoreboard once again with a goal at $1.70 at the top online bookmakers.
Geelong small forward Tyson Stengle has returned to his best in 2024, with 12 goals so far this season. Expecting the tall forwards to have trouble with the defensive pair of Steven May and Jake Lever, 25-year-old Stengle should have plenty of opportunities on the ground, kicking two or more goals at $1.95.
