Melbourne Demons v Fremantle Dockers Round 6 preview

Melbourne head into their Round 6 clash with Fremantle still searching for their first win of the season, while the Dockers are looking to make it four in a row with a victory at the MCG this Saturday.

It’s no secret the Demons are struggling in 2025, having been outplayed week after week to start the season. Their Round 1 performance against GWS remains their most competitive showing so far. To make matters worse, recent history is against them, with Fremantle recording dominant wins in their last two encounters — by 50 and 92 points, respectively.

The Dockers are coming off a commanding 61-point win over Richmond in Gather Round, with forward Josh Treacy starring with a six-goal haul.

Their midfield, led by the in-form Caleb Serong, is controlling games, while the return of Sean Darcy in the ruck is a big boost. With firepower up forward and structure behind the ball, Fremantle enter this clash as firm favourites.

Demons v Dockers R6 team news

Melbourne have swing the axe at selection, cutting star forward Bayley Fritsch as well as Jacob van Rooyen and Jack Henderson. Daniel Turner returns in the forward, Tom Fullarton makes his club debut as the supporting ruckman, and 19-year-old Koltyn Tholstrup comes in for his first game of the season.

There were concerns around Steven May after he hobbled out of Gather Round with a foot injury, but the veteran defender is set to play. Kysaiah Pickett is also named despite rolling his ankle last week.

Fremantle will be without Patrick Voss for the next three weeks after his suspension for high contact was upheld at the tribunal. This opens the door for Oscar McDonald to play his first game of 2025, having made only one appearance in the seniors last season.

Nat Fyfe remains sidelined indefinitely with a moderate hamstring tear, while Michael Walters is still managing ongoing knee issues and remains in a holding pattern.

Melbourne v Fremantle predictions

Caleb Serong is in career-best form, making a huge impact every time he gets near the ball. With standout performances of 35 and 38 disposals in recent weeks, he’s a strong value pick at $6.25 with Picklebet to rack up 40 or more touches.

Christian Petracca is always Melbourne’s barometer, and his record against the Dockers is strong. He’s tallied 25 or more disposals in four of his last five games against them, and that bet offers solid value at $2.20 with online bookmakers.

Jye Amiss is a genuine matchup issue for the Demons, having kicked three or more goals in every game he’s played against Melbourne. At $3.80 with Neds to continue that trend, he shapes as the value forward option in a clash that could open up quickly.
