Melbourne v Fremantle match preview
Melbourne continue their hunt for a top-four finish on the AFL ladder this Sunday afternoon as they host Fremantle for their round 12 clash in Alice Springs.
The Demons are favourites for this clash at -192.31 with PlayUp, while the Dockers are slight outsiders at +160. The line is set at 12.5 points.
Last Sunday, Melbourne bounced back from successive losses to beat St Kilda by 38 points at the MCG. After conceding the first goal of the match, it was all one-way traffic and the result was never in doubt.
Sitting in fourth place on the ladder, the Demons are paying $2.50 with top AFL bookmakers to finish in the top quartet.
Just one change is confirmed for Melbourne as key forward Jacob Van Rooyen misses due to injury, leaving Ben Brown as the likely inclusion after a strong run in the VFL.
Fremantle secured an unlikely draw last Friday as they finished 75-75 against Collingwood at Optus Stadium. Despite trailing by 25 points with seven minutes to go, the Dockers rallied to steal two competition points.
The Dockers have now lost just one of their past five matches. Sitting in ninth, just half a game outside the top eight, they are favoured to make finals at -138.89 with top Australian bookmakers.
Lively forward Michael Frederick returns for the Dockers after going through the concussion protocol, leaving the likes of Michael Walters and Tom Emmett at risk of omission.

Melbourne v Fremantle R12 predictions
In a clash between two of the best defensive sides in the AFL, expect this match to become an arm-wrestle. An exciting battle between Melbourne’s Max Gawn and the Fremantle pair of Luke Jackson and Sean Darcy awaits, while the pressure is on both forward lines to improve on their recent struggles. While the Demons are favoured, it should be a close affair, so back the Dockers to cover the +12.5 handicap at -109.89 with Neds.
After an injury-interrupted start to the season, Melbourne’s Christian Salem returned to form against the Saints with 32 disposals. After playing a hybrid midfield/defence role to start the season, he has improved since returning to his familiar half-back slot. With over 25 disposals in his last two weeks, back Salem to do it again at +115.
Fremantle’s Luke Ryan has done his All-Australian hopes no harm by averaging 31 disposals per game over the last four weeks. With the most marks and kick-ins in the AFL this season, the 28-year-old is everywhere in the Dockers defence. Back Ryan to have 30 or more disposals once again at +200 with Dabble.
