McGregor expecting UFC fight with Chandler to happen in 2024

Conor McGregor
MMA superstar Conor McGregor has indicated that his proposed bout with Michael Chandler will take place sometime this year.

There are promising signs that the UFC blockbuster between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler will happen before the end of 2024.

The pair exchanged tweets over the weekend, with McGregor saying:

“I talked to Dana today about our new date. ‘24 for sure.”

The statement was in response to an interaction that McGregor and Chandler had over Donald Trump’s attempted assassination on Saturday night, with both fighters tweeting their support for the ex-president.

Chandler replied to McGregor’s announcement of their fight’s timeline with handshake and fist emojis, implying his agreement with the Irishman’s declaration.

Loughnane believes McGregor wants to fight

Speaking to the MMA Hour recently, Brendan Loughnane — a former PFL champion who has spent time training with McGregor — confirmed that the UFC star is eager to fight again.

“Conor just wants to fight,” Loughnane said.

“I was in the training room with him, four to six weeks whatever it was, training everyday. Fighting each other.

“This guy is hungry for it.”

McGregor was scheduled to fight Chandler at UFC 303 in June but withdrew due to an injury suffered during training.

The 36-year-old was a -125 favourite to win what would have been his first fight in almost three years.

Online bookmakers had Chandler as a slight underdog at +100, despite the American being far more active in the octagon.

“Money doesn’t matter to Conor,” continued Loughnane.

“He doesn’t have to do this now. He’s touching billionaire status.

“He’s doing this out of the love of the sport. The guy loves it through and through.

“He wakes up every day, this is what lights the fire inside people like him and me.”

UFC betting sites will have new odds for McGregor vs Chandler once the fight date becomes official.
