McEvoy’s team second in Shergar Cup
Kerrin McEvoy has captained the Rest of the World to second place behind Great Britain and Ireland in the Shergar Cup jockeys’ team challenge at Ascot.
Fran Berry claimed the Silver Saddle as the leading rider with his two winners clinching the event for the winning team.
Heading into the final race, five points separated the home team on 64 from the Europe side, with the Rest of the World squad also poised to challenge on 54.
Berry delivered the Tim Easterby-trained Golden Apollo with a perfectly-timed challenge to see off Lualiwa for the Rest of the World, with the Jamie Spencer-ridden Megan Lily also claiming third for Great Britain and Ireland.

That result meant Great Britain and Ireland ended the day on 86, with the Rest of the World on 67, Europe on 64 and the Girls team on 23.
The Girls team was without Michelle Payne who succumbed to illness and was replaced by apprentice Hollie Doyle.
McEvoy said it had been a great experience.
“I didn’t personally get a winner but I was up amongst the placings and I’m happy for our team coming second as we finished with a real flurry,” McEvoy said..
“It’s been a great day, with a tight contest, but unfortunately the Irish boys beat us.”
