Trainer Matt Dunn is looking to Jim Byrne to steer Miss Dubois to a win in teh Caloundra Cup.

Trainer Matt Dunn is hoping jockey Jim Byrne can produce some magic for the second week in a row to give him another Queensland winter carnival Cup.

Byrne produced a superb ride on Divine Unicorn for Dunn to win the Group Three Tattersall’s Cup last Saturday.

A week later he rides the Dunn-trained Miss Dubois in the Listed Caloundra Cup (2400m).

As is the case with many trainers Dunn is keeping a close watch on the weather for Saturday’s meeting which is likely to be run on a heavy track.

Dunn has always had a high opinion of Miss Dubois.

“She won the Country Classic at Rosehill at 2000 metres for us and I have been keen to get her out to 2400,” Dunn said.

“Jim rode her when fifth in the Ipswich Cup and he was happy to stay with her.”

A product of Trelawney Stud in New Zealand Miss Dubois is a daughter of noted staying sire High Chaparral.

“She is rising eight but did her early racing in Victoria and I have always thought she could win another good race,” Dunn said.
